Spirit Dies First is a Psychedelic/Alternative/hard rock duo from London, ON, Canada.
We have been making music together for more than 7 years, with Joey the multi-instrumentalist writing and playing drums, bass and guitar, and Marina singing, and writing lyrics. She is also now beginning to contribute musically to the writing process.
Inspirations include Deftones, The Doors, Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, Placebo, The Cure, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Celldweller, Alice In Chains, Chelsea Wolfe, PJ Harvey, Placebo, and many others.
Our passion is fed by the eternal, magickal dance of light and darkness.

What's Happening?
🎉January 29, 2022: We are very happy to announce the release of the single "Ancestral Lines" off our upcoming second album, "Shadow Work".
🎉Sept, 2020: We would like to thank Divide And Conquer for their thorough review of our debut album, “Lost And Found”. We are grateful to have been compared to some respected acts, and are delighted that our various influences can be felt through our music. "Mystical drone rock" feels just right! 📝
🎉April 27, 2020: We are happy to announce the release of the single "Solitude" on bandcamp. We no longer want to publish our music on Spotify and the other streaming networks. We are hereby boycotting spotify and all the services that pay artists peanuts and make billions off their backs!
🎉March 31st, 2020: 📰 We would like to thank Toronto's Spill Magazine for their awesome review of our debut album, “Lost And Found”, and for giving our creation a whopping 8/10 rating 😱! The article is available to read here. For more SDF press, check out the “Press” section! 📝
🎉March 27th, 2020: Our amazing friends at WA12 Radio launched our album into the world with a 2-hour special that included a play of ALL 13 songs, as well as commentary by Marina regarding the meaning behind the album and each song. Marina also explains a bit about each song's lyrics, and shares some production notes, as well as general music-making musings. The entire broadcast can be heard here!

December, 2019: The mixing process on our album is finished, and we are preparing to begin mastering!
May 15, 2019: Our song, "Redeemer", is out on all platforms!
February 24, 2019: We are done recording our album, which is to be released in the summer of 2019!
February 6, 2019: Our cover of Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" is out, and can be heard on YouTube, here.
January 26, 2019: Mr. Howie Zowie did us the honour of playing three of our songs, including premiering Child Of War to the world, on 94.9 Radio Western. Full broadcast can be heard here.
January 11, 2019: Only one song left to record for the album, then it's mixing time! We think you'll love its timeless vibe.
November 30, 2018: We are working hard to finish our album, and can't wait to share 4 years' worth of musical creation!
August 17th, 2018: Our song "New Shores" is out in all the major digital stores!
