SINGLE REVIEW: “SECOND RENAISSANCE ” BY DARREN D. DANAHY

Sometimes ideas need some time to mellow, perhaps years, before they are ready to be out in the world at the time they are needed. Such is the case with D.D. Danahy’s latest single, “Second Renaissance,” released on March 4th, 2022. Originally recorded in 2011, this song was revived and emerged at a time when its message is more relevant now than ever in recent history. Two years of a pandemic, years of political divisiveness, and the current Russian invasion of Ukraine should incite us to “forget the petty things that will not let our race evolve.”
The multi-talented Danahy plays every instrument in this deep, trance-inducing journey. Very simple piano notes, acoustic guitar chords, and bongos detonate into a Pink Floyd-esque riff about halfway through the track -- a call to attention. A call to introspection. His thought-provoking lyrics are an excellent example of Danahy’s writing style. This is a man who can publish an ironic one-line social media post which spawns an abundance of discussion. The essence of this song should do no less.
This amazing track is available at dddanahy.bandcamp.com/track/second-renaissance. While you’re there, check out that beautiful cover art, courtesy of Paul Dews.
